User Opinions

Very fragile - does not stand up well in daily use

We bought 6 Bodum 10 oz glasses with three colors of bands about 6 months ago. I loved their look and the silicone band made for a nice grip. We use these glasses only at night to hold iced tea.The first glass broke when my husband bumped it against something. Okay, our fault. The second glass broke while being washed in the dishwasher. The glass was placed in the washer appropriately and there was nothing to bump against it. I might not have noticed it if I had not spotted the large piece of glass on the bottom of the diswasher. I have no idea why the glass broke.I used another glass last night and noticed the tea filling the insulated area. When I emptied the glass, there was broken glass in the bottom. The only logical conclusion I can come to is that the ice cubes falling into the glass from the refrigerator ice dispenser broke the glass. This is totally unacceptable. The only reason I gave the glasses 2 stars is because they are attractive and well designed and the insulation works well. I give them 0 stars for durability. $30 for 2 glasses is too much to spend for glasses that don't hold up better than this. I will not buy any more of them.

I've owned other Bodum double-walled glasses and they are pretty great. They lasted perfectly for years if they didn't wind up exploding in an accidental drop (they are fragile). These are another story. They have a "breathable" disc on the bottom. The idea is the gas inside can contract/expand to withstand drastic temperature changes. Unfortunately, this causes steam to get inside the double-walls leaving the glass stained and permanently cloudy and dirty looking. So don't wash these in the dish washer to avoid the cloudiness.

The 6 oz is perfect for carrying espresso in a car

Every morning, right before I leave my house, I make myself a double espresso that I then drink on my way to work. I have been looking for a perfect container for a long time and now I have finally found it.I have tried to use a miniature steel thermos, which is awkward, but the bigger problem is that I can taste the metallic flavor of steel.A regular coffee mug is way too big with too large a surface area and as a result the espresso gets cold right away. Moreover, a large cup is not really made for one to take the small sips appropriate for nursing an espresso.A traditional espresso demitasse does not really fit my cupholders, and it is all too easy to spill the espresso from one of these. Still, up to now, my compromise has been to just wad paper towels into the cupholder and continue to use a demitasse, trusting the paper towels to pick up any accidental spills. No more! These Bodum Presso cups fit my cupholders perfectly. They are just the right size. They also feel good in your hand and the glass barely gets hot on the outside while keeping the espresso warm for the 10-15 minutes or so that it takes me to drink it on the way to work. the A good double espresso fills the cup to just below the point where the interior starts widening. This also leaves just the right amount of room for the espresso to splash around without spilling if and when you have to make a sudden turn or stop.In short, these things are just what I have been looking for!Other reviewers have pointed out the obvious fact that these glasses should not be washed in a dishwasher. Otherwise, some steam will appear, as moisture enters through the pressure equalizing holes. Similarly, it should be obvious that one should not immerse these while washing them. However, the way I see it, this is not a problem since these are very easy to clean properly without immersing them or putting them in a dishwasher.
